Pregnancy Tip #2: Find Your Dry Shampoo

If you don’t already have a dry shampoo you love, now’s the time to find one. I recommend a powder you sprinkle into your roots rather than an aerosol spray. Depending on how your pregnancy is going, this might be more of a postpartum tip. But if you don’t need it yet, you’ll thank yourself later for having already done the leg work of finding one you like. In those early weeks post partum, your lungs are still recovering from pregnancy—and your newborn’s lungs are especially sensitive—so it’s best to avoid adding unnecessary chemicals into your home air. (Fun fact: aerosols release volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, which can irritate the respiratory system. Powders stay on your hair, not in the air.)

I used to think dry shampoo was just for people who didn’t have time to shower—(which is sometimes my reality now, let’s be honest). But it can actually be good for your hair. For many hair types, washing every day can strip away natural oils, leading to dryness or even more oil production as your scalp overcompensates. Using dry shampoo occasionally lets you refresh your roots without stressing your strands, making it a healthier routine than constant washing.
